Christos Tsiolkas is an Australian playwright, essayist, scriptwriter and novelist. Best known for his novels Loaded, The Jesus Man, Dead Europe, and the phenomenon that was 2008’s The Slap, Tsiolkas is regarded as a provocative chronicler and critic of Australian culture and Australian ugliness. In Barracuda, a young man is awarded a swimming scholarship to an elite private school. There, he pursues Olympic gold and the status of strongest, fastest and best. In doing so, he becomes both ‘Barracuda’ and ‘Kelly the pyscho’.
