Joanna Rakoff Interview

Joanna Rakoff’s debut novel, A Fortunate Age, hit the double of critical acclaim and commercial success. She has written for the likes of The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, and Vogue, telling other people’s stories. But in her latest work, My Salinger Year, Joanna turns her gaze inwards and looks back on a very formative year.

Joanna was fresh out of University and back in America, after completing her Masters’ in Poetry in England, and while she was trying to work out what to do with her life, she landed her first job, as an assistant at a very old-fashioned literary agency, with one particularly high profile client.

Joanna Rakoff spoke to Sky Kirkham about the book industry, coming of age stories, and answering Salinger’s fan mail. Originally broadcast 12/03/2015. My Salinger Year is out through Bloomsbury.
